Leslie's Christmas Tree 2013

finally starting to get a little scrappy mojo back.   I feel like I haven't been my usual prolific scrapper since early November.    But I'm determined to get going again.      So starting off today I made this layout using Sketch #61 at My Scraps & More blog.  You can check it out  HERE
I always love the sketches here but wasn't sure what to do with this one.   Then I remembered Leslie had sent me these pics of her tree in DC back in early December after they had it up and decorated.
She is just like me on having ornaments that mean something to her.     She sent the close up picture of the Rainbow Bright ornament that she has had since she was probably 4 years old.    That was always the ornament she looked for each year and put on the tree herself and was always worried it would get lost or broken.   So far so good thru many moves.    The other close up ornament picture she sent me was the one she bought Feb 2013 in Puerto Rico representing the National Park they were in when Jason proposed.    I just love it and so glad she loves special memories like I do.
One of their Christmas presents this year I gave them were 2 ornaments, one is a cruise ship, also to represent the cruise the went on during their engagement and the other was a camera ornament since both she and Jason are photography enthusiasts.

Santa Bruce

I got this picture last night from Bruce to show me he has all the presents wrapped and the tree up, just waiting for everyone to start arriving today.    Jason and Susan and the grandkids have already started driving from Texas.   Leslie and Jason are flying in from DC later this afternoon so to keep from just pacing and watching the clock I decided to start the day scrapping.
We got our first snow last night, about 4" and Arthur is out with the snowblower and clearing the driveway.   Luckily snow has all moved out of area so won't be any problems.
Red Carpet Studio Challenge #59 "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is to use the Sketch at
Stuck Sketches?!   (which I had made another layout from that a couple of days ago)  and then to include a Christmas tree on the layout.   I have trees on my paper, in the picture and 2 as embellishments.   Have I mentioned I LOVE making Christmas layouts?   LOL
Check out the Red Carpet Studios challenge    HERE   you still have time to enter while you are waiting for Santa to arrive and make sure that the Grinch doesn't steal your Christmas.

One last Christmas card made

I've been making Christmas cards all month and before even, but needed one more so got this made this morning.     In my online scrapping group everyone posts their cards with such a cute display to showcase them, I finally got around to doing something with mine for the group.
I used the Dec. 20th  sketch at SketchnScrap blog for this card.   Such a versatile sketch, I'm sure I'll be using it again for all kinds of cards.     You can check out the challenge HERE

Believe

Just as the title to my layout says,  "Believe"    Always believe in the magic of Christmas.
I have many pics of my kids with Santa as they were growing up  When we were shopping in IKEA the afternoon of Black Friday this year and we saw Santa and his lap was empty and no little kids in line I had Leslie go over for a picture.     I knew I wanted to do a layout with a 5x7 and just showcase the picture.    When I saw the December sketch on the My Minds Eye blog and the options for bigger pictures I knew I would use this picture.    They have a great sketch this month and show with a regular size pic or use it with 2 pics or a larger one.   You can check it out HERE
I love Christmas paper and for this I opened up my collection of MME  Vintage Christmas and used them for the layout.  I knew this paper with the Santa background would be perfect and then added the strip with the vintage Santas and then the B side to that paper too and also some of the awesome embellishments that came in the collection.
One more challenge for the end of 2013.    At Lasting Memories the challenge today is
LM #171 'Here Comes Santa Claus!'     So this layout works perfect for that challenge too.
BTW,  Leslie asked Santa for an IKEA GC,  but I've already shopped for her and that is not what she got.  LOL
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE.

OUCH

During an Ice and Snow storm in the Dallas area, the kids got to use the Golf Course for sledding.
It was all fun and games until Kai fell off his sled and got an ice burn on his face.   His tooth was already very loose but the fall from the sled took care of taking it out.    He couldn't find the tooth but I'm sure the Tooth Fairy was still able to find him.      I really liked the Dec. 1st sketch at "Boy Meets Girl Scrapbook Challenges", it was perfect to use this series of pictures.    You can check out the challenge   HERE

I got lucky and this layout will qualify for another challenge too.   "Frosted Designs" - My Favorite Things challenge highlighted some of the words from this classic song from the Sound of Music.
The challenge was to use 3 of the highlighted words as elements or such in your layout.
I used "mittens" my background paper,  "snowflakes"  my embellishment and "silver and white",  there is white letters in my paper arrows and my title I used silver Thickers.
You can check out this challenge   HERE

Family - 3 Generations

The whole Greenberg family got together in Long Island, NY for a wedding and it was the perfect opportunity for getting this picture of 3 generations   (skipping one generation)
This is my husbands Mom, his son and daughter and their children.     Where was my mind????
Why didn't I get a picture of him with everyone.
But I have this picture and was able to make a layout using the 12-15-13 sketch at "Stuck Sketches Blogspot"    They have a great prize this month.    I've already entered my layout from the sketch on Dec. 1st, but there is still time to do both if you haven't yet.    You can check it out   HERE

In The City

I'm working a little backwards today.   For the 2nd page of my Rockefeller Center layouts,   I used Week #1 at Lets Get Sketchy.        I still have a lot more pics of our trip to NYC but having fun today getting these created.    It seems like its been forever since I had a full day of nothing to do but scrap my heart out.    I've missed it so much.     With Christmas 2013, I'm actually starting my 4th
3 ring album of Christmas layouts.

NYC

We are just back from a trip to NYC for a niece's wedding.   Even though we spent a day in Manhattan, doing all the touristy sightseeing, we were not at Rockefeller Center at night to see the tree lights at night, it was just to cold and tired from walking all over.   I have pictures of the tree and the plaza during the day that I'll scrap later, but once again Facebook comes to the rescue and I got this picture of Rockefeller Plaza Christmas tree all lit up at night.     I found the perfect sketch to use at Let's Get Sketchy,  December Week 3 sketch.     You can check it out   HERE

HOME

I'm ready for a scrappy kind of day and my first layout I completed this morning is this one.
I used Sketch #257 at Creative Scrappers.  They have a great prize this month so be sure and check it out.     The sketch was perfect for this one picture I had a journal box to tell about it.
I got the picture off of Facebook from the site set up about my hometown, Mexico, MO
This tree of lights has been set up in front of the AP Green Refractories for as long as I can remember.   It was the towns first sign of Christmas and I was always in awe of its beauty.
The brick plant has long been closed but I'm so glad the Christmas tree tradition continues.

Still making Christmas cards

I want to mail my last few Christmas cards today or tomorrow so this is one that I made yesterday.
I'll be entering it for the "Here Comes Christmas" challenge at Through The Purple Haze.    You can check it out  HERE.

My favorite Christmas layout in ages.

I saw an example of this layout made up online somewhere 2 months ago,  I printed the example out because it really struck me how much I liked it and knew I would want to make one using the same design.    I picked out my background paper (even though in this picture your really can't see it and also the center musical paper.   It set on my side desk all this time waiting for just the right picture.
Last month I went ahead and figured out what size I would need for the squares and decided I would just do red and green and then cut a few example fonts and sizes of the numbers.   Made my notes of what to do when the time came.    Then late last week my daughter in law posted this picture on my grandkids outside during the "snow day" in Dallas,TX on Dec. 9th.   I knew this would be the picture to use.   I have been out of town for a week to NY for a niece's wedding so I was anxious to make this layout as soon as I got home.    I was so glad to find out the Whimsical Twist - December/Holiday project challenge was still open and I would have time to make my layout today and enter it.
You can check out the challenge     HERE   They have a great prize with the challenge for a $15 Gift Certificate for their store.

Ice Ice Baby

When I was posting my last layout for the red/green/white challenge at Lasting Memories.   I saw what the #168 challenge was....... "Snowflakes and/or Snowballs"     well that fit perfectly on the layout I made yesterday.      My son and family live in Dallas and they are in the middle of an ice storm.   No school or work on Friday so the kids were out all day,  playing on the ice and snow covered yard.     I have a lot more pics I'll have to make layouts from, but this is the one I did of my granddaughter and just "skating" across the yard"    I am to late to enter it there but still wanted to share on my blog.

Our Christmas Tree

Another Christmas season and another layout of our Christmas tree.       It does look a little different this year as I wrapped red ribbon and also silver ribbon around the tree.    Once again I didn't use any ornaments, just the ribbon and holly picks and Poinsettia picks.    Next year I'm going to go back to ornaments and really load it up.   I have so many I've collected over the years and have just gotten lazy the last couple of years.       I use todays challenge #169 at Lasting Memories.   To do a red/green/white theme layout.   You can check it out HERE     You can't beat a challenge like this for the holiday season.    My favorite holiday to scrap.   Could be because I have an insane amount of Christmas papers.

Plaza Lights 2013

A Christmas season doesn't go by that I don 't want to be at the Plaza to see all the stores lit up.
It's just magical.   This year we went  a couple of days after Thanksgiving while Dad was in town.
We had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory and the weather wasn't to cold yet so got to walk around a bit and take some pictures.     The sketch posted Dec 7 at Let's Capture Our Memories was perfect for incorporating several pictures on one page.    You can check it out   HERE
They have an awesome December prize.    A copy of Scrapbook & Cards Today's 2014 Scrapbooking Planner and Sketch Calendar,   that would sure keep me organized!

Joy

Just took this picture a couple of days ago of Dad and me.   He was here the day before we left for Texas for Thanksgiving and then a couple of more days after we got back to KC.   I had all my decorating finished before he got here so was glad he got to see everything decorated and the outside lights,   It's been a couple of years before he has been to my house around Christmas time.
So I wanted to make sure I got a picture of the two of us in front of the tree.

It's been so long since I posted and entered a challenge.   I totally forgot to add that I used the latest sketch at    Stuck U Sketches.     Be sure and check it out.

Thank You

Whimsical Twist is having a challenge about "Gratitude" and you can do any type of project you like.
Check it out   HERE.      I immediately thought of Thanksgiving layouts and how I'll be so grateful to be with all my family for the holidays.   Then I found out thru Sandi, a DT member at Whimsical Twist that a Thank You card would work for the challenge I went right to work on this card.    I plan on taking it with me to TX and leaving it when we leave for my son and daughter-in-law to thank them for hosting everyone for Thanksgiving.     The flower I just got yesterday at the Pink Paislee Warehouse sale,  I got a lot so will be using a lot on cards and layouts and then I stamped the sentiment in what I hoped would be a bold gold color and it just didn't show up well enough on the brown background,  so I got out my bold tip white gel pen and started tracing over the stamped sentiment.   I think it worked out great.

Autism Walk

I'm catching up on some older family pictures of the Bratton grandkids.   I'm taking their albums to them over Thanksgiving so I want to get as many in them as I can before I start more new albums here.   Like with all the pictures I'll be taking over Thanksgiving.      I used the November 8-21 sketch at   STUCK ON U SKETCHES.     I've had the sketch printed out since it was posted, but almost ran out of time to do it.  Every now and then it is good to clean off your desk.

BOO

Still a few Halloween pictures to scrap.   For this layout I used the sketch at Sketch n Scrap
blog, I just rotated it to the right 90 deg. to accommodate the vertical pictures I had.   Bryce broke his leg about 10 days before Halloween so they had their own celebration at home all day with Nikki dressing up for the day to entertain the kids.

Sports Star

I've made layouts in the past of the kids individual sports pictures along with the team pictures but I've had a few odd and end single pictures in boxes and just wondering if I would ever get them scrapped.   Yesterday I was on the Boys Rule site and saw the sketch that was posted on Nov. 15th.
I thought of some of these pictures and decided now I had found the sketch to use with them.   I'm not even sure of the ages of Jason in these pictures, but was lucky enough to find a picture from soccer, baseball and basketball.

Mylan's 4th Birthday

Was up by 7:00 this morning and decided since I hadn't scrapped all week, I wanted to get started right away.    I printed out the sketch I wanted to use last night so it was on my desk waiting for me.
What's even better is I get to use it in 3 challenges.      I saw the sketch at  StuckSketches yesterday as their new Nov 15th sketch.    Then over at Scrap Our Stash  they are using the same sketch but want you to add something wooden to it.   So I have added 6 wood veneer hearts to my layout.
I will also use this layout over at my yahoo group.  Scrappin N Chattin for our 52 week layout.  I can't believe we are 47 weeks into the year and so far, I haven't missed a week.
Now the other awesome news on this layout is the chance to win the prize at Stuck ?! Sketches which is a $15 GC at Whimsical Twist an awesome online store and challenge site.
Check it all out and make a great layout,  I sure had fun with the sketch.
Oh and all the papers I used came from the K&Company Confetti collection.

Guest Designer at Shop Scrap Much layout

I was thrilled to be asked to be Guest Designer at Shop Scrap Much for the Nov. 15th sketch.
I loved the sketch so really enjoyed making this layout for their blog.    This is my grand-daughter Addisyn,  her Dad is an Orthopedic Oncologist and first his son Gibson wore these scrubs a couple of years ago and now it's Addisyn's turn to wear them.     She is so cute in them.
Hope to see a lot of entries for the sketch at Shop Scrap Much,  you just have to enter a layout with 2 of the 4 sketches for the month and they are due by Nov. 29th.      You can check it out   HERE

Artful Delight sketch - Christmas card

It's not often I find a card sketch that I want to use but I liked the one at Artful Delight this month.
Check it out HERE and be sure and enter.

Star Gets to celebrate Halloween too

i LOVE this picture.   It looks like Star has control of all the Halloween candy to pass out this year.
I doubt he scared anyone being as cute as he is, but still looks like he was having fun.
Halloween 2013 at the Bratton's in Trophy Club, TX

I used the November sketch at Artful Delight.    It was perfect for this single picture and I got to use more of my Halloween papers too.    Fun times.

You can check out the sketch and challenge  HERE

BOO - Halloween 2013 - Gibson

This was a fun sketch to work with.    It's the Nov 1st sketch at Stuck ?! Sketches.   You can find the sketch and challenge   HERE

I thought these pictures were so cute of David getting Gibson all dressed in his Karate outfit for Halloween this year.

Trick or Treat 2013

This week working on all my Halloween pictures from the grandkids.    I got more pictures than I expected so luckily will be getting to use all these Halloween papers I've been collecting over the years,   I've become almost addicted to them as I am with Christmas papers.
These are of Mylan going through their neighborhood in TX.   Susan said the kids were moving so fast it was hard to get decent pictures of them.   In fact I think these are pictures that a neighbor took and posted on their FB page.     I used the sketch for week 1 at Lets Get Sketchy.    You can check it out   HERE

Sketches4all Guest Designer

I just recently joined the group Sketches 4 All.    You can check it out HERE

I was thrilled when I was asked to be the Guest Designed for November and I just posted my first challenge there a few minutes ago.    I would love for any of my followers to check it out and enter my challenge or any of the great challenges that have been posted there for November.   So many fun challenges to choose from it will for sure be a monthly place to go to and get your scrap on.    :)

Here is the info on my challenge for November:

Happy November everyone.   This year sure has been flying by.    My name is Barbara and I'm from Kansas City, MO and I am so happy to be a new member to this group and thrilled that I was asked to be a Guest Designer for November.
Since I'm new to this and not overly computer savvy for adding sketches and photo inspiration pics at this time for a challenge I thought I would just go with a LAYOUT RECIPE CHALLENGE.
For the recipe you need to use the following on your layout:
3 SQUARES - minimum, you may use more
MATTING -- you can mat your photo or a journal box, but something must be matted.
CARDSTOCK - 2 different colors of card stock must be used,  you can also have patterned paper or more card stock, but two visible colors of solid card stock must show on your layout.
NUMBER -  you must have at least one numeric number on your layout.    This can be in the title, or your patterned paper might have numbers on it,  or a numeric number could be in the picture, like the
#16 showing on a birthday cake.

And my work in progress example:

You have all month to enter the challenge and I will pick a random winner at the end of the month to send a RAK to.    Hope to see you there.

Watching the Tide roll in

One more layout of the kids at the beach in California this month.    As soon as I saw the picture, immediately the Otis Redding song,  "Sitting at the Dock of the Bay" came into mind.   Well actually the next line was it 'watching the tide roll in'    so I knew as soon as I made a layout with the picture I would use that line for my title.      I thought Sketch #52 at  My Scraps & More Sketches  bloodspot would work perfectly for it.   I'm totally out of "water like" papers, but had this one scrap of cruise paper that I used behind the picture and then  I just started looking thru collections and came up with the other papers to use.     Today is the last day to enter a layout for this sketch so I'm glad I got to it.

The Zoo

I'm back !!!   I've had a cold and didn't do a lot of scrapping over the weekend.   Even with my cold, it was a beautiful day on Monday.   Temps in the high 60's and nothing to do at home.   So we spent the afternoon at the Kansas City Zoo.   Being outside in the sun and fresh air really helped me to feel better.   Between Arthur and I we took 200 pictures so I've been busy today making zoo layouts.
This one I used the sketch that was announced just today at  "Let's Scrap"     I know I can always check here each week to find great two page sketches to use.    The sketch had 3 smaller pictures down the right side, but I decided in place of the pictures that would be the perfect place for the map
we got at the zoo.   I just fussy cut it from the brochure and added it to the layout.

Race On

I had these pictures and sketch set aside to work on for over a week.   Today when I finally went thru the 3 different stacks of paper on my desk I found this.    Less than 3 days left to enter the challenge at
Stuck on U Sketches       So glad I stopped everything and worked on this laayout.   I'm really pleased with how it turned out with all the layers and different patterns.      It's getting cloudy outside so didn't get the best picture, but used a lot of browns, tans, greys and oranges from an old collection I still have plenty of   My Minds Eye Indie Chic.    Just a touch of a flower pattern showing so it still worked with these pictures of Kai and Koda having fun at a race track.

Jump In

I'm back again using another sketch from Let's Get Sketchy.   This is week 3 for Octobers sketch.
I once again went thru some old photo albums to find something to scrap.   These are pictures of Jason at age 12, we rented a house boat at the Lake of the Ozarks for I think it was 5 days and we had a blast.
Jason would spend hours jumping off the top of the boat and going swimming.   Of course at age 12 it didn't hurt that there were 2 girls about his age with their father in another houseboat anchored in the same cove so he was busy doing his best to impress them and they did end up swimming together a lot.
Mom and Dad went with us for the whole trip and Bruce and Julie and Zach was just a baby and they came and joined us for one day and night also.

Christmas 2012

When I saw the latest sketch at Pamela's World of Scrap I knew it would be a great sketch to use for using a lot more Christmas pictures.    I love making Christmas layouts and since I just ordered some more papers nothing like using up some now.  LOL
So this just shows my outside lights from last year and some of the decorations inside.
I'm ready for Christmas this year and start decorating all over again.    It's probably good all my decorations are in the basement because after so many trips carrying things upstairs I quit before I get everything out.   But this year my Dad will be staying over the weekend after Thanksgiving and he will be one more decorating helper.

Sending Dad to Work

Almost ran out of time but got going today on my entry for the tic-tac-toe challenge at
Whimsical Twist blog      I made my tic-tac-toe down the right side by using Twine,
Chipboard and Thickers/Alphas.         The twine is around the picture mat and thru the button
on it and then two different twine pieces vertically on the cardstock.    My chipboard is the "you are sweet" cutout and the "love you" tag.   Of course used Thickers for my title.
So much fun playing tic-tac-toe with scrapbooking.    I had printed this picture out of Mylan with her Dad and had an old sketch out to use with it last week and never got it made so semi used the old sketch I had saved and made it work with all I needed for the Whimiscal Twist challenge.

It's Raining Leaves

We went to see Dad this last week and Bruce got up on the roof to clean off all the leaves from roof and gutters.   Dad is 90 years old and had gotten up there 2 months before to clean the gutters without anyone knowing it so we wanted to make sure he didn't sneak up there again and do it himself.
I used the sketch at ShopScrapMuch blogspot.    I just replaced leaves where the sketch had circles.

Scrapping

I got to meet an online scrapping friend Ashley Walker when she came up from her home in Arkansas and we went to the CK Convention here in Kansas City then we got to spend the weekend her at the house scrapping and had so much fun.     I used sketch #42 posted today at Lets Capture Our Memories
blog to make this layout.  Check it out they have some great Alphas for a prize this month.

Disney Trip 1984

Found more pictures of the trip to Disney World that Don and I took Jason to in 1984.   Leslie was to young to go so stayed behind with her grandparents and Jason got some one on one time again.
I used another one of the stencils I got at the CK convention.   These are so fun to use.
I'm entering this int the Lasting Memories challenge blog for the Monday Mojo on 10-14-13 to use Black as your background.

Pumpkin Patch Fun Time

I've been hoarding 2 pieces of this background paper and finally broke out one of them for this layout and so glad I did because I think it goes well with this picture.       I used sketch #24 at
2 Broke Girls Scrap, it was just perfect of this one picture I had left of the Greenberg family at a pumpkin patch last weekend.

OUR LOVE

Jason and Susan were married Dec 5, 2008 at a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas and finally I have the last page of their wedding album finished.   I put everything together again over the weekend in two post bond wedding albums and had the back page left so I wanted to do something special for the last page.    I bought these stencils at the CK convention here in town last weekend and used one of the designs to make this layout.   The kids had their wedding photographer go into old Cabo town with them the day after the wedding and take professional pictures of them, so I picked some of them to put together for this.   The final challenge at Use Your Words blog is to use the word LOVE so this worked out great and had just enough room to add the words OUR LOVE with silver letters to the layout.   Now to take the finished albums to them at Thanksgiving and see if they like everything.

Smile - 4 months

As I said in my last post I've been pulling out old pictures of the kids from old albums sitting on my shelves and love these pictures of Jason.  I'm sure I've scrapped others like it before as I probably had duplicates or took a lot of him sitting in the chair, but just wanted to scrap some more.
I used the week 2 sketch at Lets Get Sketchy Blog      I can always find great sketches here each week to use.

Jason at 5 months

I've been going through some old picture albums and pulling pictures of the kids when they were little to scrap.   I used these when Jason was about 5 months old for the latest sketch at My Scraps and More
I just used 3 pictures instead of the 4 that were in the sketch.    Then went to my favorite Authentique collection to make the layout.

Pumpkin Patch

After 3 nights and 2 days of scrapping with my friend Ashley in town,  today it took a lot to get me to make one layout.     Most of the day was spent reshuffling all the new goodies I bought while we were out shopping and at the CK Convention here in KC.    But I got these pictures off FB today so wanted to get a layout made.     I use the Sketch-y Friday at ShopScrapMuch challenge blog, it really worked well to add all my pumpkin diecuts to the the border.

Could Get Messy

I've been going thru the computer and looking at old pictures of the grandkids.    I don't think I've ever scrapped these pictures but even if I have, here they are again.   I can't make enough layouts of this little face, Kai is now 7, time does fly by so fast.      The new challenge site of Boy Meets Girl Challenges
the AAB Oct 1st challenge is a grunge challenge so just inked all over the background with 3 different ink colors, then I added the title with plain chipboard letters and use some blue ink spots on them, for the messy/grunge look.

Ice Cream

Looks like Mylan is enjoying her ice cream treat in these pictures.   I used the sketch #23 at
2 Broke Girls for my layout.   It worked out well and also got to use the last bit of paper I've had for ages from Nikki Silvis, Sugar Cookie collection.   Then I added the die cut ice cream sundae that I got in a swap and just love.     After I had it all put together I decided to add some hand stitching around 3
edges so I could enter it in my yahoo group, Scrappin N Chattin challenge to have some real hand-stitching.

Avery

I love this black and white picture of Avery so decided to keep the whole layout in B&W,   I went with the week 1 sketch at Let's Get Sketchy    I like the clean lines of it for the all black and white.   The yellow center on the flower was just enough pop of color.

All Dressed in White

Spring of 2012, Jason and Susan took the kids and went to California for a visit and to go to a birthday party of a close friend.   Everyone for the party was to dress in white.   I just found these pictures that Susan's sister took and I just loved them so I went to my go to blog for two page layouts.
Let's Scrap      Today is the last day to enter for this sketch so I'm really glad I got it made, because it
fit perfectly for all the pictures.   I went without a title or journaling and just showcased the pictures.
